Nature Communications paper published

Wenbin Xu, along with co-authors Joel Ruch and Sigurjón Jónsson, has publised a paper in Nature Communications entitled "Birth of two volcanic islands in the southern Red Sea". The study reports on the formation and erosion of two new volcanic islands that formed in the Zubair archipelago  in the southern Red Sea in 2011 and 2013. The authors argue that the eruptions, along with multiple seismic swarms, indicate that the southern Red Sea has been experiencing a "rifting episode" and that the area may be more active than previously has been thought.
